Almost 3 months since the start of the 2013/2014 academic year and the initial promotion of the Salus project in schools in Fermanagh, Cavan, Derry and Donegal – almost 600 young people have benefited from the Projects ‘ Provoking Thought’ workshop (such as students from St Mary’s Brollagh, Co. Fermanagh, pictured above).
This workshop is the main vehicle by which the Project’s two Salus Information Officers Pauline O’Hagan and Michaela McDaid deliver its key messages to young people between the ages of 12 and 25 around good mental health. The interactive workshop addresses stigma around mental illness, looks at ways young people can cope when times are difficult and signposts young people for further help when necessary.
Schools and community groups in the four counties have embraced the projects positive messages with information officers being invited back to deliver more in depth sessions on topics such as bullying and self-esteem.
Any schools who would like to host a Provoking Thought workshop in the New Year should contact the project by emailing [email protected] or ringing Siobhan on 02866 323630.
