Personal Resilience

The resilience course aims to teach employees and employers the best methods and techniques to better equip themselves to stand up to the pressures and stresses of life. Some of the things this course will examine are:

  1. What is stress and what causes it?
  2. What are the links between how we think and stress?
  3. Managing stress at home and in work
  4. Changing our ways of thinking
  5. Conquering stress
  6. Preventing stress from gaining a foothold

This course is open to anyone wishing to attend and will be held in Enniskillen Library. The course is being delivered in partnership with Health in Mind and is free to attend.

Mental Health Awareness Dunclug

Mental Health Awareness

The main aims of the course are to highlight the main Mental Health issues and disorders out there and to give an overview for the signs and symptoms.

By the end of this course participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the meaning of mental health and mental ill health
  2. Identify the most common mental health illnesses/symptoms/behaviours/myths
  3. Challenge some of the stereotypes and stigma associated with the term mental illness
  4. Identify possible causes for common mental illnesses
  5. Living with mental illness and successfully contributing to society
  6. Identify personal skills/limitations to support someone with a mental illness
  7. Identify ways to sustain good mental health

This course is aimed at carers and those with caring responsibilities in the Dunclug area of north Ballymena. Mental Health is such a huge issue now that we all need to better understand these serious conditions and how stress can impact on our mental health. Those with caring responsilibilities need to take care of themselves as well in order to ensure that they are at their best for those they care for. Our course will help them to be more aware of when their own mental health is taking a hit and will give them the skills and awareness to help them combat these stresses and maintain good mental health.

Provoking Thought Dunclug

Provoking Thought

How do you think about mental health? What are your opinions? Our Provoking Thought course has been specially created to challenge the preconceived beliefs and thoughts on mental health and to equip you with the tools and understanding to think about mental health in a more positive and healthy light. By the end of this course you should better understand:

  1. What does good mental health mean?
  2. What is a mental illness?
  3. How does stress affect us?
  4. What are the signs and causes of stress?
  5. What are healthy and unhealthy ways to cope with stress?

This course is open to community gatekeepers, youth facilitators and teachers who work in the Dunclug area and is aimed at giving them the skills to challenge beliefs around mental health and to be better equipped to understand how the main mental health conditions present and impact on the lives of young people.

This course is being run in partnership with the North Antrim Community Network

safeTALK University of Ulster

SafeTALK

safeTALK, about three hours in duration, is a training that prepares anyone over the age of 15 to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help to stay safe. Alert helpers know how to use these opportunities to support that desire for safety. As a safeTALK-trained suicide alert helper, you will be better able to:

  • move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid suicide;
  • identify people who have thoughts of suicide;
  • apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to connect a person with suicide thoughts to suicide first aid, intervention caregivers.

Powerful video clips illustrate both non-alert and alert responses. Discussion and practice help stimulate learning. Learn steps that contribute to saving lives.

This course is being delivered to the Belfast and Jordanstown campuses of the University of Ulster in partnership with the Health in Mind Project

Stress Management

Stress Management

The main aims of the course are to show the main factors which can cause stress both in and out of the workplace and will help participants to learn the skills to combat these.

By the end of this course participants should be able to:

  1. Understand what stress is
  2. Understand what causes stress
  3. Identify the factors influencing stress
  4. Recognise the signs and symptoms of stress
  5. Manage stress through relaxation techniques
  6. Identify areas of stress in your own life and learn how to create an action plan to combat these
